Is it possible to use an ad-hoc network for multilayer gaming with 2 computers?

I need to know how to do this if its possible. I created the adhoc network , connected the second computer to it, but after I create a LAN game in halo, I can't see it on the other computer. Is there a way to play a 1vs1 game if there is no router involved and only 2 computers?

Yes, you can play multiplayer on an ad-hoc network.

You need to follow these steps to set up a home ad-hoc network (Note: This is overly complex to make sure *nothing* goes wrong, you can usually skip step 2)

1) Make sure you're using a crossover Ethernet cable to connect both PCs. Ask at a cable shop to make sure.

2) Assuming you're on windows (XP?), the first step you should do is assign IP addresses to both PCs. This is done by:

(i) Go to control panel %26gt; Network connections

(ii) Right click your network card (Local Area Connection)

(iii) Click properties, Select TCP/IP from the menu, click properties.

(iv) Select "Use the following IP address".

(v) Under IP address, enter a unique number, eg 10.10.10.1

(vi) Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0

(v) OK everything.

(vi) Repeat the same on the other PC EXCEPT give it a different IP address. Both addresses must share the same first three numbers ie '10.10.10' in this case.
