And the laptop probably already had wireless built-in. Just hook up the router. Set up a network. (i.e. go to my computer%26gt;network places%26gt;set up home or small office network and warcraft 3 should recognize the other computer over the network. (note you will have to run that wizard on both computers)

yes, you need a cross-over cable to make a direct connection between both computers.

the option to play with this type of connection should be available in the multiplayers options of your game.
The most common way is with a router and playing over the local area network (LAN) which is setup using the network connections option in the Windows control panel; that is the method I have had the most success with.

For that method you need a router, 2 ethernet cables, and two ethernet cards. Or just a wireless router, and two wireless adapters.

Crossover cables are generally very slow and difficult to set up, i have had no success with this method, please let me know if by chance you do.

Just a couple notes:

-Make sure you are both running the same version, i.e., both are patched using v1.20, and you are both running Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.

-Also, you can both play over the LAN using only one CD. Start up the game on one computer, and after it is loaded take the CD out and start it up on the second computer.
If you both have an Ethernet card, I assume yo do, look into something like this. Can put up to 4 computers via cable and wireless option as well.
