What program will save all my documents when I change computers?

Every time I change computers there are some documents I can no longer open. Since I have parts of a book on some of these programs I lose anything I have not printed. This time if I used note pad it transfered, every thing else cannot be opened. I went from millenium to Xp. Then Xp regular to xp professional. I have some in microsoft word, and some in another common program ( cannot remember the name). Should I purchase a program or what? The only thing I dont like about word pad is it does not offer much help for fomatting and no spell check, or page numbering. What should I do?

Before you burn them to disc or copy to usb drive, default them to windows software (for viewing or whatever) and they should be viewable in all windows versions, unless you were using specific software with your data, and if this is the case then you need to roll over this software. Bear in mind that cd discs can become unreadable over time, and at times, if you reinsert the disc on another occasion, it may be read, but, it sounds like you need the software that you can't remember the name of. It was part of the create and needs to be the "parent". There is no universal software for all cause others want to make $s as well as Bill.

You need to save all of your files to a floppy, CD or the USB device. Then, when you have your program loaded on new computer, you can open all and save them. Good luck.
