Can I use one operating system for two computers? What bad can happen?

I got my laptop of ebay without an operating system. My dad had someone install one. I did not get a CD. About four years later, my laptop has many problems. I want to completely wipe it out. I have three other computers, can I just use their operating system to install it? Will an problems occur?

Assuming you're talking about a Windows OS, the worst thinig that could happen would be an unlimited fine followed by a prison sentence for breach of the licence agreement.

A more likely problem would be that when you went to activiate the software, which you have to do within 28 days on Windows XP, you will be rejected and the OS will only operate for the 28 days, then you'll have to buy a license or re-install every 28 days!

Beware, you can't even use the license number from a desktop and install to a latop even if you aren't using the desktop anymore as it often breaches Microsofts very strict licensing.

You can buy cheap OS's from Ebay though. I got XP Media Centre for about 拢80 and it's worked perfectly.

Alternativly, use a linux OS with less restiction on use.
