I want to connect 2 computers (both are in the same room) to my one Verizon DSL (Westell 6100) broadband modem. Will the product shown below allow me to do this? If so, what other equipment (like cables, etc.) will I need to purchase in order to have a "wired" connection to my DSL modem?
D-Link EBR-2310 10/100Mbps Ethernet Broadband Router 1 x 10/100Mbps WAN Ports 4 x 10/100Mbps LAN Ports
Also, will such a setup slow my connection speed? I have the 768kbps DSL service from Verizon.
Your help with this will be most appreciated. Thank you.
Can I use this router to connect two computers to my DSL Modem?symatec
that's what routers are for, so you're on the right track, even looking at the correct device. here's what to watch out for:
I'm not sure about the westell, but you will want to change the lan (local) address of the router to 192.168.3.1 so that there's no possibility that it will match the westell modem.
then all you have to do is plug the westell into the WAN port on the dlink, then plug your pc(s) into the Lan ports.
lastly, you won't really notice a change in connection speeds since the internet is really a "burst" communication, meaning you use it in bursts and not continuously. if you're constantly downloading something, then yes, you will suffer some loss of speed, but we're talking about a %10 loss.
