I just got a laptop computer and wanted to be able to get online with it while my husband is online with our home pc we have a dial up internet connection that we use via a modem which both our computers have in them but my laptop also has a wireless thingie inside of it? Is that a way I would be able to acess the internet at the same time or not?
Is there a way to use one Internet connection for 2 computers, so they can both get on line at the same time?stinger
Ok your modem i am guessing only gives out one standard ip address.
The way to find this out is if you hook the laptop and pc up to the modem and only one can get online, while the other will say limited connectivity on it (in the network connections area start--%26gt;settings--%26gt;network connections)
This is because you only have1 ip address assigned from your ISP. your IP address is your unique address which allows you get on the internet.
The solution to get both online is as follows:
1. Ring your ISP and order a secnd IP address, my ISP in ireland provides this facility, but this adds more expense and can be solved an easier way.
2. the better solution would be to buy a router, ideally a wireless router. A router basically plugs into the ethernet port of you modem and splits the connection. So 1 ip address goes in and several can go out. I have a 4 port router at home allowing me connect 4 wired devices to it, i can also connect wirelessly which i do from time to time. Routers cost anywhere from 鈧?0-鈧?20 so shop around.
