I need help to set up a smell network between 2 computers a desktop and a laptop?

I have a network switch which runs when both computers are active, but am unable to join them together, I use a usb modem for internet access, but I'm unable to access the web without taking out the modem and conecting it to either computer

setup the network ad-hock using cross UTP wire, from PC to Laptop, you must see and icon of "Local Area Network #" in your networkplaces%26gt;%26gt;Network connections, both on PC and Laptop,

set the PC's IP for the default gateway of the Laptop,

the example is like this :

PC : ip address : 192.168.0.1

subnet mask : 255.255.255.0

empty the default gateway on the PC

on the Laptop, set like this :

ip address : 192.168.0.2

subnet mask : 255.255.255.0

default gateway : 192.168.0.1

if it's done, now you already have built a small network between PC and Laptop,

next, to share internet access, you have to plug the usb modem to your PC, now in your PC you will have 2 Network, so your PC from now will act as the Gateway,

right click on your PC Network that connect to the internet, the text should be "Local Area Network #" the # will be different with the other Network your PC connect to the Laptop, click tab Advance, check the checkbox on the Internet Connection Sharing,

now your Laptop already have the internet access, if it's still can't connect to the internet, disable your firewall, it would work.
