My computers have not been set up as a home network. They are simply standalone computers that access the same wireless router. Should I set up a home network using Windows XP (Professional)? Should I then buy a NAS storage device? Can I just buy a simple USB external storage device? Do these come with software to recognize multiple computers and backup automatically? Can this happen wirelessly?
I want to buy an external hard-drive that can automatically backup multiple home computers. What should I do?internet security
Don't get a NAS. The ones for home use are too slow; the good ones are too expensive. Get a USB or firewire external and Acronis True Image. I really like this backup program.

Hi. A large external HD can be partitioned to equal each HD you want to backup. It really does not matter from which node on a wireless network you want to back up on as long as they are all on the same network.
I think that the best option is to use True Image Workstation which can backup several machines through the network automatically. In order to obtain more information use the following link:

Each computer will give it a code so when you plug it in the computer will reconize it and ask for importing data depending on your computer.
or better
try bluetooth get 1 bluetooth adapter for 20 at walmart, And buy a usb bluetooth hub so you can connect booth computer easy as that.
External drives can't do anything wirelessly.
Since they have to be physically connected manually, it's not really automatic. So I would recommend a home network, and backup files from one computer to another. Save your money and don't bother with the external drive.
