Yes! All you need is a cross over cable.

Yes you can but you need to use a crossover cable rather than a normal one like you would use with a switch or hub.

It is pins 2 and 3 that are crossed over ie 2 goes to 3 and 3 goes to 2.

Yes it;s possible by using whats called a crossover cable, its a standard network cable but some wires are switched you can run that between houses and do a local lan. as long as its not too far then touy need a suignal boost or repeater of some sort but yes...crossover cable
You can use an ethernet crossover cable to attach two machines with lan card to one another.
