I have a HP desk top set up with a Terayon Cable Modem by USB (eternet card does not work). I have a Compaq desk top with a Linksys PCI card installed. I am wanting to buy a wireless router so that I can run both computers. I do not know how to hook up the wireless router when I do buy it. Will it matter that the HP's eternet card does not work? Can it be done by the USB port? Please somebody help! Thanks

1) Instructions for hooking up your wireless router will come with the router. Just follow them and you should be fine.
2) Your HP machine will need a wireless network card of its own. You can get either a card that plugs into a USB port or once that goes in a PCI slot. The USB card will be easier to hook up, but probably more expensive.

get a linksys
Yes it can be done via USB. If you are going to use the wireless feature, you must purchase a wireless card to install on one of your USB slots. That will enable you to use wireless on the desktops. A word of warning!! I would suggest hard wiring one of the desktops via USB or ethernetif you intend to transmit confidential info--i. e. credit card nums.
If you want to communicate from HP desktop to router with a wired connection, get a working wired Network Interface Card. If you want to communicate from HP desktop via wireless, get a wireless Network Interface Card. I would get a wired one because you need to configure the router and this must be done via wired connecteion.
Once you configure the router for wired connection and it works, then address the wireless connection as the manual directs. Record exactly what you did. Be sure to include encryption and MAC validation as the manual directs.
I presume the Linksys pci card on the Compaq is wireless. Configure it to work with the config you set up for wireless.
