You need something called a 'USB bridge' cable. You can't just connect two USB ports together with a regular wire because USB ports don't work that way.

There are also 'USB To Ethernet Port' devices that you can buy too. You will need a network cross-over cable to connect between the 2 computers - a regular Ethernet cable won't work.

Assuming you have the same Operating system installed and a USB cable bridge working in both machines, and the same USB version (latest is 2.0) You should be able to connect them together.

I would recommend however, that you do the file sharing through a LAN or a network. easy way to do this is go to control panel and open network setup wizard. Set the name of your computer and enable file + printer sharing when asked. Now, just go to the other computer and share all the stuff u need.
